NEW MUSE

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
NFS

I have a 15 month old granddaughter who has renewed my interest in the figure.  Children are more agile than us older people(me) and can get into some poses that we can only dream of. I plan to do more of these small paintings in addition to my still life paintings.

BROWN TOMATO #2 ON HOLD

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS BOARD
PRICE $100

This painting was close to finished when I went to bed but mischief was happening in my studio while I slept. My nosey tabby cat Dudley, was dismantling my still life setup. Everything was on the floor except the vase and it was perilously close. Dudley has a felonious past when it comes to breaking things. One time in his younger years, he ended up with all four paws in bandages from broken glass.

BROWN TOMATOES

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE $100

I bought these tomatoes at Trader Joe's and they were labled Brown Tomatoes. They are actually a combination of very dark reds and greens that make them appear brown. Quite tasty as well as attractive.

WE QUIT!

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS BOARD
PRICE $100
The stems kept getting broken.

Years ago (I won't say how many) my friend and I were attending the same college but in different majors. We decided it would be fun to take a class together so we registered for a ballet class. It didn't enter our minds that we might be terrible at it. Our mindset never included the thought that we would ever fail at anything. We were awful, even the football players were no worse than us. After about three weeks it became clear to us that we had better drop the class or our GPA was going south in a hurry.

DANCE CLASS

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE $100

Get it? The plum with the stem is teaching the other plums a new dance step. It's been a long day.

These plums are so much fun to paint. Just like the eggplants, alizarin crimson plays a dominate role in the paint mixture. I took black out of my palette for a long time but now and then I bring it back. You can make some very nice greens with it and the cad. yellows.

RED APPLE

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE $100
This is a painting of complements which I am fond of doing. I have been looking at other artists use of composition lately and circular movement is quite prevalent. After looking at Janet Fish's work for years I have just realized how often she uses circular composition. If you live near the Dayton Art Institute, I encourage you to go and look at her painting in the contemporary gallery.

APPLE FOLDS

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE $100

Apples. The staple of still life painters everywhere. I especially like painting the red apples so I can use all those wonderful cadmium reds and yellows. Fabric and folds can be a bit tricky sometimes. The best advice I have about that is to try not to think about what you are painting. Just put down the colors you see and with a little luck it will all come together in the end.

TINY EGGPLANTS

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE: $100

Eggplants again. These Japanese eggplants are the perfect size for the small paintings but they don't last very long. They get mushy in no time at all. Under a spotlight, eggplants take on some great purple and red colors that are fun to play with.

WOODLAND SUNFLOWERS/ ON HOLD

SIZE   6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE  $100

I looked in my Audubon Field Guide of Wildflowers and came up with this title. There sure are alot of yellow wildflowers in this book so I had to look at leaf texture, size, petal arrangement etc. and I could still be wrong. As I'm editing this, it occurs to me that I have some pretty nerdy books. Another one is Butterflies of North America. The butterflies don't sit still for long so their more difficult to pin down. Oh! Did I say pin down? I wouldn't do that.

WILDFLOWERS 6"X6"

OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE $100

These flowers were growing through a chainlink fence on a back road in Tipp City. For years I have been passing by them in September with the thought of painting them. This year I made it. They are very sparse this year due to the hot dry summer but I only needed a few.

BLUE AND PEACH 6"X6"

OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE $100

WOW, what a frustrating last few days. Frontier bought Verizon wireless where I have been getting my email for years. The promised seamless transition to Frontier was anything but seamless. I have been unable to get email for three days so I apologize to anyone who has not received a reply to a message. The computer was locked up all day Sat. Now I have my emails but photos will not display and the transfer of our address book did not happen as promised. I could go on and on but you have most likely had a similar situation at one time. I won't bore you with any more complaints.
I have been having fun painting this series of peaches. The begonia was a bit of a challenge. I would get so much paint on the surface that I could no longer control it. So I would scrape off the paint and start over but I'm pleased with the end result.

BLUE PLATE SPECIAL 6"X6"

OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE: $100

You may have already guessed this about me by viewing my other posts, I love the color blue. This transparent blue plate was giving off some great reflections on the cloth. Those of you who are artists may be interested in a new site that I have found online. It is http://artistshelpingartists.blogspot.com/  Two artists living in different parts of the country made friends through their blogs and started a weekly radio show. The show offers marketing ideas and interviews with other artists, gallery owners, framers etc. The show is on Thursday mornings but I usually listen on Friday since that is a free day for me. You can listen to previous shows or you can order transcripts. It is also entertaining as well as informative. If you have trouble with the link I provided, email me at anita.tresslar@gmail.com  or call me at 937-667-4654 and I will help you find it.
