THE GROUP 6"X6"

These apples look more appetizing in the painting than they do in person. They are very wrinkled and soft by now. I made another stop at a different Goodwill today to pick up some new things. Couldn't really browse because I had both of my terrified cats in the car. They had just visited the vet for their yearly check-ups and shots so I didn't want to leave them for long. New (old) stuff will be appearing in future paintings.

NEW CUP 6"X6"

This red cup is from a recent trip to a Goodwill store. A still life artist treasure trove. Only 49cents and a gorgeous blue interior that I will paint at another time. It's kind of funny when I think about all the stuff I have given Goodwill over the years(coffee mugs, plates etc.) and then I go buy back more coffee mugs and plates.

I have one bid on the cigarette lighter painting I posted on ebay. That means the Lung Assoc. will get at least
$25.

UNZIPPO 4"X4" SOLD

When I saw the daily paintworks challenge this week I was not going to participate. My friends and family know I hate smoking and I just couldn't see myself painting a lighter. But then I remembered that after my father-in-law died, we were given many of the things he had collected over the years. He was a survivor of the depression and those people did not throw anything away. He was a heavy smoker and that and complications from diabetes took his life at 67. I have also lost other loved ones to smoking. Here is one of my father-in-laws lighters. Not a Zippo but a very old Ronson. I have put this painting on ebay starting at $25 with all proceeds going to the American Lung Assoc. and the shipping will be free. " Cough up" some money to help fight lung cancer please.

APPLE BOWL 6"X6"

I really like this color combination. Whenever I see grapes in a painting I think of the Dutch still life painters. You notice that I have decided to leave out the dead fish that sometimes accompany the grapes.

PINK ROSE

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE $100

This painting was created for the Daily Paintworks challenge. The idea is a rose painting for Valentines Day. I did not have a red rose so I chose this pink one which was very open. Let's just say I would not want to paint a dozen of them.

LEANING

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE $100

Carnations are great for still life paintings because they have staying power. They stay in good shape longer than most flowers. If you are a slow painter like me, then it's a plus.

VIEW FROM ABOVE

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE $100

I approached this painting like one of my larger paintings from the beginning. As a result, I had some wiping to do. I tend to forget that the spacing is so much tighter and sometimes I need to put a background color down when I start the painting. This one was frustrating but a great learning experience.

ICE STORM AND PROJECT

The top photo was taken on a sunny day after the ice storm last week. The small trees and bushes were bending over the creek that runs beside our house.

The bottom photo is what I did while we were iced in. I took alot of my framing supplies and built these shelves for my paintings that are on canvas panel. I still have a few revisions but am very happy with them.
Having grown very tired of framing my own paintings, I was more than happy to use up most of the wood. The best part is that I didn't have to buy a thing. I used my little battery operated circular saw and my drill. I had a great time.

TEN MINUTE EXERCISE

This is another challenge from Carol Marine. I took a 6inX6in panel and divided it into 4ths, then set my little plastic kitchen timer for ten minutes and stopped painting when the timer went off. I got so into the paintings that every time that buzzer went off I jumped. I think this would be good exercise to do before a day of painting but I think I would use canvas paper next time. These little panels are not cheap.

WALLFLOWER

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE $100
Kind of looks like the flower is acting shy. I know, It's dumb. I am so tired from my week of studio cleaning, shelf buiding and organizing that my brain is a little foggy. My next project is varnishing a bunch of paintings. I do that when I know I will not be in the studio for a day so I don't have to smell it.

APPLE GATHERING

6"X6"
OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
PRICE $100
Back to still life. I'm a little more comfortable painting apples than cars but the challenge was fun. We got the ice part of the big storm and I would rather have gotten the foot of snow. At least the plows can clear it away. I have been using my forced isolation for doing some more studio organizing. I may just get this place cleaned up if we keep having bad weather.
